Fall Bucket List

Fall Bucket List

As I have mentioned numerous times throughout my blog, I LOVE FALL! There’s something about fall in Michigan that makes it feel magical: the changing leaves, brisk weather, comfy flannel, and cider and donuts, of course!

Because there are so many fun fall activities in Michigan, I narrowed my favorites down to the top 12 must-do’s this year!

Follow Friday

Hello and Happy {FINALLY} Friday!

I’m not going to lie to you — this has been one of the absolute longest weeks ever, but it’s finally time for the weekend and I’m so excited to share with you some of my favorite blogger friends to follow! These ladies inspire me with every post, and I hope you love them just as much as I do. I’m sharing their Instagrams on my Insta stories today as well, so be sure to give them and myself a follow to stay up-to-date on our blogs (& lives)!

Bri Car

I know you’ve seen me talk about this lady before in several of my previous posts! On her blog, Bri highlights everything from her favorite haunts in Detroit to music to her own personal experiences in her As Told By Bri series, and so much more. Being one of my personal friends, she pushes me as both an individual and blogger in ways that I never thought possible – never in a million years did I ever think I’d hold not one, but two successful side hustles. Stop in to Bri Car here!

Lauren State of Mind

A friend and fellow blogger that I admire so much is Miss Lauren – or LJ, as I like to call her – the beautiful brains behind Lauren State of Mind. Of course, I love to read up on all of my friends’ and fellow bloggers’ adventures, but one of my absolute favorite things about LJ’s blog is her One Word series. This is easily one of the most well-written, and thought provoking series that I have ever read. Her raw depiction of her encounters in everyday life put into a simple, singular word will make you reflect on your own life and daily practices.

ReadyJesset **coming soon**

A blog that has yet to be launched, but I’m anticipating due to discussion to be incredible is another blogger friend of mine, Jessah’s, travel blog ReadyJesset. On her blog, you will find tips for traveling to countries such as France, Cuba, and Belgium. Additionally, Jessah will be sharing her experiences of traveling solo, as well as those of her friends! Be on the lookout for her blog!

Comment your favorite blogs below, including your own — I’d love to read them!

Beyond Brunch Detroit’s January Event Recap

This past Saturday, Beyond Brunch Detroit (BBD) held our second event at Bobcat Bonnie’s in Corktown. Our expert this month was the amazing Consumers Energy engineer and founder of the Goal Getter Group, Jereshia Hawk. Jereshia shared her entrepreneurial experience and passion for helping female entrepreneurs achieve their goals and grow their side hustle with us. To say that we all walked away empowered and inspired is an understatement!

Having a side hustle while also working 9 to 5 is no easy feat. However, with a structured business plan and a marketing plan to match your business’s needs, you will be thriving in no time. If you’re interested in  building your side hustle, check out Jereshia’s website (hyperlinked above) to become a Goal Getter today!

Now let’s talk food!

Bobcat Bonnie’s is located in Corktown, a historic district just west of Downtown Detroit, MI, and has one of the coolest atmospheres I’ve ever experienced with a ton of character. Board games, trivia nights and $3 build your own Mimosa & Bloody Mary bar are just a few reasons Bobcat Bonnie’s has become one of my new favorite restaurants. They boast an expansive beer menu and some amazing food (just take a gander at the brunch menu below). I highly, highly recommend checking them out next time you’re in town.

My meal included the meaty omelette sans onion which came with a bowl of fruit, & I added a side of house fries.
I’m so blessed to be surrounded by such inspiring, confident women!

Don’t forget to follow Beyond Brunch Detroit on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and sign up for our newsletter to become a member! If you have any questions, reach out to me via email or social media and I’d be happy to talk about what’s next for BBD!

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

Last week I took a little break and went to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with my boyfriend, Ryan and his family to visit his grandma while he’s home. A fun fact about me is that even though I’m a Michigander, I have never actually traveled to the U.P. until now! We did a family vacation to Mackinac Island when I was five, but that is as far north as I’d ever been. It turns out that the U.P. is nothing but historic and absolutely beautiful!

We stayed at the Laurium Manor Inn in Laurium; It’s a darling old mansion of the family of a copper mining tycoon, built in 1908 that is now a bed and breakfast (with a fabulous breakfast). The history nerd that I am, I loved getting to know the history of the house. We stayed in one of the maid’s rooms (#7) on the third floor right across from the ballroom. It was quaint and lovely, but you need to mind your head on the sloping ceiling. Rumor has it that the old house is haunted from it’s days as a funeral home, but we didn’t experience anything paranormal.

During the trip, we explored the Lake Superior shoreline since his grandma is lucky enough to call the lake her backyard and were able to witness some breathtaking sunsets. We also toured a copper mine and explored the towns of Calumet and Copper Harbor.

Here are a few photos from our trip!

This was such an amazing way to kick off the end of summer! What did you do for your end of summer celebration?

Dining Destinations: White Horse Inn

Dining Destinations: White Horse Inn

On Saturday I joined my boyfriend and his family for dinner at the historic White Horse Inn in the small town of Metamora, Michigan. Recently renovated, the restaurant’s decor nods to Metamora’s equestrian history and Michigan’s plentiful natural resources. My dinner included New England clam chowder, mac & cheese, a mint julep, and a warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookie for dessert. I was definitely not disappointed! Good food and a phenomenal atmosphere, the White Horse Inn is one of Michigan’s oldest eating establishments that you won’t want to miss!

For more information on the White Horse Inn, visit their website in the link above or stop in and experience it for yourself!

Keeping up with Kourtney: January Edition

Keeping up with Kourtney: January Edition

Hey Hey Hey! I’m back from the frigid north and it seems as though I’ve brought the cold weather back with me.

Today begins yet another change I’ve made to the blog because I realized that, quite frankly, there’s not much that’s very whimsical about Wednesday. Also, the word “whimsical” kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. So, without further ado, here is the first edition of Keeping up with Koko (it’s a lot like Whimsical Wednesday, but with a much better title).

Last semester of school ever// This Tuesday I started my last semester of school ever, and it was not as magical as I anticipated because I still feel the exact same as I did first semester: old. But I love all of my professors so far so I’m expecting a fabulous, yet hectic last semester!

Northern Michigan NYE// As previously stated, I rang in the new year at my cottage with ma famille. It was spent much like every other time up north: snowmobiling, shooting, euchre, booze and board games. Lots of laughs were shared and pictures taken (I’ll post a few of them below in a slideshow).

New Beginnings// This semester I will be interning at the Detroit Zoo as a public relations intern and I could not be more excited! Even now, I still love day trips to the zoo so it’s so exciting for me to be there twice a week. Prepare for adorable animal pictures!!

Detox// Just like everyone else after the holidays, I’m in desperate need of a major detox. I’ve decided to cut fast food out of my diet, and to avoid processed food to the best of my ability. If you have any detox tips comment below, I love getting other’s input regarding it!

Sip Happens// I have some very exciting news to share with all of you… One of my best friends and I have decided to start a vlog titled Sip Happens. Our first official video will be up on Thursday, but right now you can check out our promo video on our channel (hyperlinked above). Share, like, comment, and subscribe to our channel, there will be a new video every Thursday!

Have a fabulous rest of your week and God bless!

Fall Favorites

Hello

Hello Friends!

Fall is officially here in Michigan and I could not be more excited since it is my absolute favorite time of the year! In celebration, I thought I’d share some of my favorite things about fall and things that I am obsessed with at the current moment in time.

Chunky Cable knit Sweaters// They can be layered with an adorable pair of boots and jeans or just paired with leggings. My go-to place for amazing sweaters is J Crew!

Fleece Pullovers// Continuing the theme of comfy garments, I’ve always been a huge fan of your average crew neck and quarter-zip fleece, but I’ve never known love until I bought my Patagonia Snap-T Fleece Pullover. Okay, maybe that’s a tad over-dramatic, but, in all reality, it’s quite fabulous and I highly recommend checking it out!

Cider Mills// This really speaks for itself, the best fall past time in Michigan; donuts, caramel apples, and warm cider…. Nothing beats it!

Guacamole Chips// Okay, so it’s not quite fall themed, but they are one of my latest obsessions. If you enjoy tortilla chips and guac, you’ll LOVE the organic twist by Food Should Taste Good. I’ll admit, I was a tad apprehensive initially, but I ended up demolishing the whole bag with my friend. Yes, they are that good!

Quilted/Puffy/Fleece Vests// Last, but certainly not least, I find it quite essential to have, at least, one vest to sport during this time of the year. Vests are perfect for layering on particularly chilly days; it’s no surprise that my favorite comes from the store that holds my heart: J Crew!

What are some of your favorite fall things? Comment below and don’t forget, sharing is caring!
